How does pepper spray work?
Pepper spray's active ingredient is OC or oleoresin capsicum. The OC is derived from Cayenne peppers these are some of the hottest peppers in the world. Unlike MACE or tear gas, which are irritants, pepper spray OC is an inflammatory agent. Contact with mucous membranes (eyes, nose, throat and lungs) causes immediate dilation of the capillaries. This can result in temporary blindness and instant inflammation of the breathing tube tissues and systematically cuts of all but life support breathing. OC also will create an intense burning sensation on the surface of the skin. However, OC will cause no lasting after effects. The effects last from 15 to 60 minutes. Because OC is an inflammatory agent and not an irritant it is effective on those who feel no pain such as psychotics and those under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Listen to MVSCLZ's new single "A Fantasy, A Possibility" on San Francisco's West Add Radio 93.7 FM's amazing show Slave to the Rhythm. Really nice selection of cosmic disco, minimal synth, new wave, etc. The archived shows are highly recommended!

We wandered around a business park around sunset and found some nice areas with perfectly trimmed, soft lawns and spotless parking lots. The area seemed completely devoid of any signs of the human race. No cars, no trash -- there weren't even any security cameras anywhere. The glow of the sunset gave the scene (and the photographs) a nice, flat, pink aftertaste.

9/11/2008 01:47:00 PM FOCUS: THE CREATURES
I really appreciate bands such as The Creatures who promote their identity as a full package: excellent audio production, dazzling visuals and performances, wonderful conceptual videos.
The Creatures also took an interesting twist on the themes of their songs, with titles like "Believe in Yourself" and "Maybe Some Day" that oozed with positivity and uplifting energy. This look and feel is characteristic of many italo disco bands at the time (and one of my favorite things about the genre), promoting messages of dream-searching and ecstatic love-dwelling -- themes that our modern Western world might quickly shun as "cliche" and "cheesy" (until it becomes hot again, ha). Regardless, LONG LIVE THE CREATURES AND LONG LIVE ITALO.
I recently created an exclusive mix for Modular's Modcast series. They just released it ( Episode 18), accompanied by a nice lil writeup for me. Big ups to Radge at Modular!

Finally, these damn kids with their thirft-store finds and ridiculously complex metanarratives get a show. From their previous incarnations Totally Wreck to Omnibeast to Neo Arcadia, Ben Aqua (aka ASSACRE, MVSCLZ), Johnny Cisneros (aka V C CHLDKRFT), Mark P. Hensel (aka Mizzard), Mike Ruiz (aka Mikeyawesome), David Salinas (aka D.A. Deseret), Eli Wellbourne and Lanneau White (plus a gaggle of collaborators, probably) take us into an unguided and probably unmanned trip into their Omniverse of HyperCubes, tape delays, neon fabrics, cathode tubes, wizardry and Bucky Fuller wet dreams in this quasi-historical show chronicling an artist collective few people actually know but no one forgets. Art people in Austin will be talking about these artists, their work and the community they have created for themselves and their friends over the last half a decade or so (has it been that long?) for many years to come. Co-curated by Jade Walker and Risa Puleo, this show will probably feel like stepping into a Tangerine Dream album color with the saturation turned ALL THE WAY UP. - IL
